Editing social sharing image
Set the preview image that appears when your wedding website is shared on social media.
When someone shares your wedding website on social media, a preview image appears. You can customize this image to make your site look great when shared on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or anywhere else!
What is a social sharing image?
Also called an Open Graph image or og:image, this is the picture that shows when your website link is shared on:
- Facebook
- Twitter
- LinkedIn
- Instagram (in some cases)
- Text messages (on some phones)
- Anywhere else links create previews
It's your site's "cover photo" for social media!
Why it matters
First impression. The image people see before clicking your link.
Looks professional. A custom image is way better than a default placeholder.
Shows personality. Share a photo that represents you two!
Encourages clicks. A beautiful image makes people want to visit.
How to set your social sharing image
- Go to Site > Builder
- Click Site settings
- In the General tab, find Social sharing image
- Click Upload thumbnail
- Select your chosen image
- Click Save
Now when people share your link, they'll see your image!
Choosing the right image
Size: 1200x630 pixels is the standard. At minimum, 600x315.
Format: JPG or PNG.
Orientation: Horizontal (landscape) works best.
Clear focal point. Make sure the main subject is visible even as a thumbnail.
Text-free or minimal text. If you include text, keep it large and readable.
Image ideas
Engagement photo. Your favorite shot of you two.
Wedding logo. If you have custom branding.
Save-the-date design. If it's already designed beautifully.
Venue photo. Where you're getting married.
Invitation mockup. Your invitation design as an image.
Couple's name graphic. Simple text design with your names and date.
Design tips
Keep important content centered. The edges might get cropped on different platforms.
Use high resolution. At least 1200x630 pixels.
Avoid tiny text. It won't be readable in preview.
Test it. Share your link to see how it looks!
Make it recognizable. Guests should know it's YOUR wedding site.
Testing your social sharing image
After uploading:
- Share your link on Facebook or Twitter (as a test)
- Check the preview that appears
- If it doesn't show up, wait a few minutes and try again
- Force refresh by pasting your URL into Facebook's Sharing Debugger tool
Facebook Sharing Debugger
Facebook has a tool to check how your link looks:
- Search "Facebook Sharing Debugger"
- Paste your wedding website URL
- Click Debug
- See your sharing image preview
- Click Scrape Again if you updated the image
This is super helpful for troubleshooting!
Different platforms, different crops
Each social platform displays images slightly differently:
Facebook: 1.91:1 ratio (1200x630)
Twitter: 2:1 ratio (1200x600)
LinkedIn: 1.91:1 ratio (1200x627)
If you stick to 1200x630, you'll be safe for most platforms! Just keep important content in the center.
When it doesn't update
If you change your sharing image but social media still shows the old one:
Social platforms cache images. It might take hours or days to update.
Use debugging tools. Facebook and Twitter have tools to force a refresh.
Wait it out. Eventually it'll update.
Check your code. Make sure the new image URL is in your site's meta tags (this is usually automatic).
Mobile vs. desktop
Sharing images look different on phones vs. computers. Test on both if you can!
Image file size
Keep your sharing image under 8MB (most platforms' limit). Ideally under 1MB for faster loading!
If your image is huge, compress it before uploading.
Alt text
Some systems let you add alt text to your sharing image. This is helpful for accessibility and SEO!
Alt text example: "Emily and Jordan's engagement photo at the beach"
Updating your image
You can change your social sharing image anytime! Maybe start with an engagement photo, then switch to a wedding photo after the big day.
Just remember social platforms might cache the old image for a while.
No custom image?
If you don't set one, social platforms might:
- Show your site's first image
- Show your logo or favicon
- Show a generic placeholder
- Show nothing
Custom is definitely better!
Multiple pages
Usually the social sharing image applies to your whole site. Some systems let you set different images per page, but that's rare for wedding websites.
One great image for your entire site usually works!
Your social sharing image is like your website's profile picture. Make it count!
