Deleting household with guests
Learn why households with guests can't be directly deleted and how to remove or reassign guests first before deleting the household.
You can't directly delete a household that still has guests in it. This is a safety measure to make sure you don't accidentally lose guest data. Here's how to handle it.
What happens when you try
If you click Delete on a household that has guests, you'll see: "The household couldn't be deleted because it contains guests."
How to delete it anyway
You have two options:
Option 1: Remove guests from the household first
- Go to the household
- For each guest, click on them and change their household assignment
- Once the household is empty, delete it
Option 2: Delete the guests first
If you don't need the guests anymore:
- Go to Guests in your main navigation
- Select the guests from that household
- Delete them using bulk delete
- Go back to Households and delete the now-empty household
Tips
Reassign rather than delete. If the guests still need to be on your list, just move them to a different household (or remove them from any household) before deleting.
Think about whether you really need to delete. If you just want to rename or update the household, edit it instead.
