Changing page slug
Customize the URL-friendly version of your page title that appears in the web address for cleaner links.
The slug is the URL-friendly version of your page title. It's what appears in the web address for that page. You can customize it to make your URLs cleaner or more meaningful!
What a slug is
If your page is called "Travel Information", the slug might be travel-information.
Guests would visit: yourwedding.com/travel-information
Slugs are:
- All lowercase
- No spaces (uses hyphens instead)
- No special characters
- Part of the page URL
Why change the slug
Shorter URLs. "Travel Information" becomes travel instead of travel-information.
Better for sharing. Short URLs are easier to text or email.
SEO. You might want specific keywords in your URL.
Fix typos. If you mistyped when creating the page.
Match rebranding. If you changed your page title but want the URL to stay simple.
How to change a page slug
- Go to Site in your main navigation
- Find the Pages section
- Click on the page you want to edit
- Look for the Slug or URL field (sometimes under advanced settings)
- Enter your new slug
- Click Save changes
The page's URL updates immediately!
Slug rules
Lowercase only. Even if you type uppercase, it'll convert to lowercase.
No spaces. Use hyphens instead. "our story" becomes our-story.
No special characters. Stick to letters, numbers, and hyphens.
Must be unique. You can't have two pages with the same slug.
Keep it simple. Shorter is usually better.
What happens when you change it
The URL changes. Guests need the new URL to find the page.
Navigation still works. Your menu links update automatically.
Old bookmarks break. If guests bookmarked the old URL, they'll get an error.
Old links break. If you shared the old URL anywhere (emails, social media), those links won't work anymore.
Good slug practices
Keep it short. travel is better than travel-and-accommodations-information.
Use keywords. Match what guests might expect.
Be consistent. If all your slugs are one word, don't make one super long.
Think ahead. Try to get it right the first time so you don't have to change it later.
Common slugs
home(home page)storyorour-story(how you met)events(ceremony, reception)travel(hotels, directions)registry(gift registries)rsvp(response form)photos(engagement pics)partyorwedding-party(bridesmaids, groomsmen)
If you change a published slug
If your site is already live and you change a slug:
Tell guests. If you've shared links, let people know the URL changed.
Update anywhere you've linked it. Check your save-the-dates, invitations, social media, etc.
Check referrals. If other sites link to your page, they'll need to update too (or their links break).
It's better to get slugs right early, but they can be changed if needed!
Auto-generated slugs
When you create a page, the slug usually auto-generates from your title. "Travel Information" becomes travel-information. You can leave it as-is or customize it right away!
Multilingual slugs
If you're running a multilingual site, you might be able to set different slugs per language. English guests go to /our-story, Spanish guests go to /nuestra-historia.
Check your language settings for this feature!
Slugs are a small detail, but they make your site more professional and easier to share!
