How to access settings
- Go to RSVP > Form
- Click RSVP settings
- Adjust your preferences
- Click Save changes
Enabling online RSVPs
Enable RSVPs - Toggle this on to start collecting online RSVPs on your site. The description says "Start collecting online RSVPs on your site. Guests will not be able to RSVP until this setting is enabled."
Your RSVP form is now live on your wedding website once enabled.
Important: To close the RSVP form, toggle off Enable RSVPs. The deadline date (below) is for display and reminders only—it doesn't automatically close the form.
RSVP deadline
Set a deadline date for RSVPs. This date is displayed on your site so guests know when to respond by, and it controls when RSVP reminder emails get sent (if you've enabled them).
The deadline is for display and reminders only. To actually close the RSVP form, toggle off Enable RSVPs.
Access and lookup
Guest lookup method
Choose how guests find themselves on your RSVP form:
- By name - Guests search for their name (default). This is the "Anyone on our guest list" option.
- Open - Anyone who visits your site can RSVP, even if they're not on your guest list. This is the "Anyone who visits our site" option.
Restricted access - When enabled, only guests you've specifically invited can access the RSVP form. This works with the "By name" lookup method to ensure only your guest list can respond.
RSVP response options
Unsure option - Enable this to give guests a third choice beyond "Attending" and "Not attending." This lets guests indicate they haven't decided yet.
When enabled, guests see three buttons: Attending, Not Attending, and Unsure.
Guest details collection
Details collection step - When enabled, guests can update their contact details (like email, phone, and address) as part of the RSVP process. This is on by default.
Choose which contact details to collect from guests when they RSVP:
- Email address - Collect or update guest email (on by default)
- Phone number - Collect guest phone number (off by default)
- Household address - Collect mailing address (on by default)
- Dietary requirements - Ask about dietary needs (on by default)
Dietary order
You can choose when dietary requirements appear in the RSVP flow. By default, dietary questions appear after the attendance step.
Plus-ones and children
Allow anyone to add a +1 - Toggle this on to let all guests bring an additional person when filling out the RSVP form. The description says "Allow all guests to bring another guest when filling out the RSVP form."
If you'd rather control plus-ones on a per-guest basis, leave this off and enable it individually for specific guests in their guest form.
Children - You can allow certain households to add their children when RSVPing. This is controlled per household in the Households section by toggling on RSVP for additional children.
Message field
Message field - Allow guests to leave a personal message when they RSVP. On by default.
When enabled, guests see a text field where they can write a message to you as part of their RSVP response.
Household RSVPs
When guests are part of a household, any member can RSVP on behalf of the entire household. This means one person can confirm or decline attendance for everyone who lives together.
For example, if a married couple is in the same household, either partner can fill out the RSVP form and respond for both of them. This saves time and avoids duplicate responses.
RSVP reminders
RSVP reminders - (Available with Stationery plan) When enabled, WedSites will automatically send reminder emails to guests who haven't RSVPed as your deadline approaches.
You can also set when the reminder should be sent by specifying a date.
RSVP redirects
After a guest completes their RSVP, you can control where they're taken next. This is a nice touch for keeping guests engaged with your wedding content.
Redirect to - Choose where guests go after submitting their RSVP:
- Closed - Shows a simple confirmation/thank you message (default)
- Save the Date - Redirects to your save the date page
- Invitation - Redirects to your invitation page
- Custom URL - Redirects to any URL you choose (enter the URL when selected)
Back to website link - You can also enable a back to website link on the RSVP confirmation page. When enabled, guests see a link to return to your wedding website after completing their RSVP.
Confirmation emails
Confirmation email - When enabled, guests automatically receive a confirmation email after they submit their RSVP. This email confirms their response and provides a record of what they submitted.
Form wording
Customize the wording that appears on your RSVP form. This setting allows you to change text like the unconfirmed status message or other form labels to match your wedding's tone and style.
To access form wording customization, look for the wording settings in the RSVP settings panel.
What happens when a guest RSVPs
When a guest completes the RSVP form:
- Their status automatically updates to Confirmed or Regretfully declined
- Their response date is recorded
- If you've enabled confirmation emails, they get an email confirming their response
- Any questions they answered are saved to their guest record
- Their event attendance is updated (if you have multiple events)
How the form saves progress
The RSVP form saves each step as guests complete it. This means:
- You won't lose responses if a guest's browser crashes or they lose connection
- Attendance is captured first so you always get the most important information
- Partial responses are possible if a guest confirms attendance but closes the tab before answering all questions
If you notice guests who have RSVP'd but haven't answered your custom questions, they may have gotten interrupted. A friendly follow-up usually helps them complete the rest of the form.
Tips
Set a realistic deadline. Give guests enough time to respond, but not so much that they forget. A few weeks before the wedding is typical.
Name lookup is safer. Using name-based lookup means only people on your guest list can RSVP. Open RSVPs let anyone respond.
Enable plus-ones carefully. Turning on global plus-ones means everyone gets one. If you only want certain guests to have plus-ones, leave this off and set it per guest instead.
Only collect what you need. A shorter form means more people will complete it. Don't ask for a phone number if you'll never call anyone.
Dietary is really useful. Most couples find this is the most valuable piece of info to collect during RSVP. Your caterer will thank you.
Addresses for thank yous. If you're planning to send physical thank you cards, collecting household addresses during RSVP saves you work later.
Think about capacity. Plus-ones and children add to your headcount. Make sure your venue can accommodate the extras.
Use restricted access for privacy. If you want to keep your wedding private, enable restricted access so only people you've invited can find the RSVP form.
Keep redirects relevant. Redirecting to your invitation or save the date gives guests more wedding info. A custom URL could go to your registry, photo gallery, or travel info page.
The default redirect works fine. If you don't have a strong preference, the standard confirmation message is perfectly nice on its own.
Enable confirmation emails for peace of mind. Guests appreciate having a record of their RSVP response in their inbox.
