Deleting a page
Remove a page and all its content permanently from your website and navigation menu.
Don't need a page anymore? You can delete it! This removes the page from your site and navigation menu.
What deleting a page does
Removes the page from your website.
Removes it from navigation. The link disappears from your menu.
Deletes all sections on that page.
Makes the URL inactive. Anyone trying to visit that page URL will get an error.
How to delete a page
- Go to Site in your main navigation
- Find the Pages section
- Click on the page you want to delete
- Look for a Delete button (often in the sidebar or at the bottom)
- Confirm that you want to delete it
- The page is removed
Before you delete
Make sure you really don't need it. Deleted pages and their content can't be easily recovered.
Check for links. If other sections or pages link to this page, those links will break.
Save content if needed. If you might want the content later, copy it somewhere safe first.
Consider hiding instead. If you might need the page again, make it private instead of deleting it.
What happens to the content
When you delete a page, all sections on that page are deleted too. This includes:
- All text
- Images (though the image files might still exist in your media library)
- Links
- Timelines
- Everything
When to delete pages
You created it by mistake. Oops, duplicate page.
Plans changed. You're not having a welcome party anymore, so you don't need that page.
Simplifying. Your site has too many pages and you want to consolidate.
Starting over. Sometimes it's easier to delete and rebuild than to edit.
Alternatives to deleting
Make it private. Hide the page without deleting it.
Unpublish your site. If you want the whole site hidden temporarily.
Remove from navigation. Some themes let you keep a page but remove it from the menu.
Archive content. Copy the content to another page or save it externally, then delete.
Can you undo a deletion?
Usually no. Once a page is deleted, it's gone. Some systems might have a trash or recovery feature, but don't count on it!
That's why it's important to be sure before deleting.
Deleting your home page
Your home page is usually special. You might not be able to delete it, or deleting it might cause issues. If you want to change your home page, it's better to edit it or create a new page and set it as your home page instead!
After deleting
Check your navigation. Make sure your menu looks correct.
Test links. If you linked to the deleted page from anywhere, update those links.
Check external references. If you shared the page URL (in emails, social media, etc.), those links will now be broken.
Multiple pages to delete
If you need to delete several pages:
- Delete them one at a time
- Confirm each deletion
- Check your site after each one to make sure nothing broke
There's usually no "bulk delete" for pages (which is good, because it prevents accidents!).
Deleting vs. reordering
If you don't like where a page is in your navigation, you can reorder pages instead of deleting them. See our article on reordering pages!
Deleting pages is permanent, so make sure you're certain before you click that delete button!
