Deleting a section

Remove unwanted sections from your website permanently, and understand the difference between deleting and hiding content.

Don't need a section anymore? You can delete it from your website. Once it's gone, it won't show up on your site anymore.

How to delete a section

  1. Go to Site in your main navigation
  2. Find the section you want to delete
  3. Click on it to open the editor
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the sidebar
  5. Click Delete section
  6. Confirm you want to delete it

The section disappears from your site right away.

What happens when you delete

The section is removed from your website. Your guests won't see it anymore.

The content is deleted. Any text, images, or settings in that section are gone. Make sure you really want to delete it before confirming.

Other sections stay put. Only the section you selected gets deleted. Everything else on your page stays the same.

The gap closes up. If you delete a section in the middle of your page, the sections above and below it move together. There's no empty space left behind.

Can you undo it?

Once you delete a section, it's gone. There's no undo button.

If you're not sure you want to delete something permanently, try making it private instead. That hides it from guests but keeps it in your account so you can bring it back later.

Alternative to deleting

Make it private if you might want the content later. Private sections don't show on your site but they're still saved in your account.

Move it to a different page if the content belongs somewhere else instead of deleting it.

Edit it if you just want to change what it says. You don't need to delete and recreate sections to update them.

Deleting vs hiding

Deleting removes the section completely. The content is gone.

Making private hides the section from guests but keeps it saved in your account.

Pick delete if you're sure you don't need it. Pick private if you might want it later.

Be careful with these sections

Sections with images you uploaded. If you delete a section with custom photos, those photos get deleted too.

Sections with lots of content. If you spent time writing a long paragraph or creating a detailed timeline, make sure you really want to delete it.

Menu sections (headings). If you delete a heading that's in your navigation menu, it disappears from the menu too.

What if you delete the wrong one?

If you accidentally delete a section, you'll need to recreate it. The content doesn't get saved anywhere.

Take a second to make sure you've got the right section selected before confirming the delete.

Tips

Review before deleting. Read through the section one more time to make sure you don't need any of that content.

Consider editing instead. A lot of the time, you don't need to delete. You can just edit the section to say something different.

Clean up regularly. If you've been experimenting with different sections and have a bunch you don't need, delete them to keep your site tidy.
