Viewing a translation with the ?lang parameter
Jump directly to a specific language version of your website, ecards, or RSVP form by adding ?lang= to the URL (Pro plan only).
If you have a multilingual wedding website, you can share a direct link to a specific language version by adding the ?lang= parameter to the end of any URL. This works on your wedding website, ecards, and RSVP form.
How it works
Add ?lang= followed by the language code to the end of any URL on your wedding site. For example:
- Website:
yourwedding.wedsites.com?lang=fr(French) - RSVP form:
yourwedding.wedsites.com/rsvp?lang=es(Spanish) - Ecard:
yourwedding.wedsites.com/ecard/abc123?lang=ja(Japanese)
When someone opens a link with the ?lang parameter, the page will display in that language instead of the default.
Common language codes
Here are some commonly used language codes:
en— Englishes— Spanishfr— Frenchde— Germanit— Italianpt— Portugueseja— Japaneseko— Koreanzh— Chinesear— Arabicnl— Dutchru— Russian
Use the same language code that appears in your language settings.
Important: this changes the guest's preferred language
When a guest clicks a link with ?lang=, their preferred language is automatically updated to match. For example, if a guest opens yourwedding.wedsites.com?lang=fr, their preferred language will be changed to French. From that point on, they'll see your website, RSVP form, and any future communications in French.
This is useful when you want to direct a guest to a specific language version, but be aware that it permanently changes their language preference. If a guest accidentally clicks a link with the wrong language, they can switch back by clicking a link with the correct ?lang= parameter, or by selecting a different language from the language menu on your website.
When to use the ?lang parameter
Sharing a direct link to a specific language version. If you're sharing your website URL directly (not through an ecard), you can append ?lang= so the recipient sees the right language immediately.
Directing guests to the RSVP form in their language. Add ?lang= to your RSVP link so guests land on the form in the correct language right away.
Testing your translations. Use ?lang= to quickly preview how your site looks in each language without switching through the language menu.
Combining with other URL parameters
If the URL already has a query parameter (contains a ?), use &lang= instead of ?lang=. For example: yourwedding.wedsites.com/rsvp?something=value&lang=fr
Tips
Make sure the language is set up first. The ?lang= parameter only works for languages you've already added in your language settings. If the language hasn't been added, it will be ignored.
Remember it changes guest preferences. Since this updates the guest's preferred language, only share language-specific links intentionally. If you're not sure which language a guest prefers, it's better to let them choose from the language menu.
Use it for testing. This is a quick way to test each language version of your site. Open your website with ?lang=fr, then try ?lang=es, and so on to review each translation.
