Adding section to navigation menu

Create clickable menu items that jump directly to specific sections within a page.

Heading sections can appear as links in your navigation menu! This lets guests jump directly to specific parts of your page. Perfect for one-page wedding websites or long pages with multiple sections.

What are section navigation links?

When you add a heading section with a title to your page, it can become a clickable link in your menu. When guests click it, they jump to that section on the page.

Smooth scrolling: Most themes smoothly scroll to the section.

Anchor links: Creates a direct link to that part of your page.

Great for single-page sites: All your content on one page, menu helps guests navigate it.

Which sections can be in navigation?

Only heading sections with titles appear in the navigation options.

In the Navigation links section, these appear with a mint green Section label next to them.

Other section types (paragraph, image, etc.) can't be added to navigation.

How to add a section to your menu

  1. First, create a heading section with a title on your page
  2. Go to Site in your main navigation
  3. Click on the settings icon to open Site settings
  4. Click the Menu tab at the top
  5. Scroll to the Navigation links section
  6. Find your heading section in the list (look for the mint green "Section" label)
  7. Check the checkbox next to that section
  8. Click Save changes at the bottom

The section now appears as a link in your navigation menu!

Creating heading sections for navigation

If you don't see your section in the list, make sure:

  1. It's a heading section (not paragraph, image, or another type)
  2. It has a title filled in
  3. The section is saved

Heading sections without titles won't appear in the navigation options.

How section links work

When guests click a section link in the menu:

  1. The page scrolls to that section
  2. The section appears at the top of the viewport
  3. Most themes use smooth scrolling (looks nice!)
  4. The URL updates with an anchor (like #our-story)

Guests can also share the direct link to that section!

Section links vs. page links

Page links (blue "Page" label): Navigate to different pages

Section links (green "Section" label): Jump to sections on the current page

Both can appear in your menu together!

Organizing sections in your menu

Sections appear in the Navigation links list in the order they appear on your page.

Top sections appear higher in the list.

Bottom sections appear lower in the list.

To change menu order, reorder the sections on your actual page.

Sections from different pages

If you have multiple pages, heading sections from each page can be in the menu:

Homepage sections: Show when viewing the homepage

Other page sections: Show when viewing those pages

The menu adapts based on which page the guest is viewing!

Private sections in navigation

If a section is marked as private:

You'll see "(private)" next to it in the Navigation links list

You can still check it to add it to the menu

Only guests with access will see it in their menu

Private sections automatically hide from guests who shouldn't see them!

Common uses for section navigation

One-page wedding website:
- Our Story
- Events
- Travel
- RSVP
- Registry
- Photos

All on one page, menu lets guests jump to each section!

Long event page:
- Ceremony
- Cocktail Hour
- Reception
- After Party

Break up a long page into navigable chunks!

Timeline or schedule:
- Friday Welcome
- Saturday Ceremony
- Saturday Reception
- Sunday Brunch

Help guests find their specific event details!

Section titles and menu text

The text in your menu comes from the section's title field.

Keep titles concise. They need to fit in the menu.

Be descriptive. Guests should know what they'll find.

Match your style. Use consistent capitalization.

If a section title is too long for the menu, consider shortening it!

Removing sections from menu

To remove a section link:

  1. Go to Site settingsMenu tab
  2. Find the section in Navigation links
  3. Uncheck its checkbox
  4. Click Save changes

The section still exists on your page, it just won't be in the menu!

Testing section links

After adding sections to your menu:

  1. Visit your live wedding website
  2. Click on each section link in the menu
  3. Make sure it scrolls to the right section
  4. Test on mobile too

Verify the smooth scrolling works and sections are easy to find!

Section IDs and URLs

When you add a section to navigation, it creates an anchor link. The URL looks like:

https://yourwedding.com/#our-story

The part after # is based on the section title. Guests can bookmark or share these direct links!

Menu becoming too crowded?

If you have too many section links:

Uncheck some sections. Not every section needs to be in the menu.

Combine related sections. Maybe merge two sections into one.

Keep only the most important. Menu should be helpful, not overwhelming.

Aim for 5-7 section links maximum!

Sections vs. external links

Sections are part of your wedding website pages.

External links point to other websites (like your registry).

Sections appear in Navigation links, external links appear in External links. Both can be in your menu simultaneously!

Multi-page sites

If you have a multi-page site (not just one page), section links are less common. Usually you'd just link to pages and let guests scroll through the content normally.

Section links shine on single-page sites!

Adding sections to navigation makes your one-page wedding website easy to navigate, letting guests jump straight to the information they need!
