Editing header image
Change the large banner image at the top of your website that sets the visual tone for your entire site.
Your header image appears at the top of your website, welcoming guests when they first arrive. It's one of the first things people see, so make it count!
What is a header image?
The header image (sometimes called a hero image or banner) is the large image at the very top of your website. It usually spans the full width of the page and sets the visual tone for your entire site.
Different from:
- Page header images: Individual images for specific pages
- Background images: Images behind your content
- Logo: Your site's logo or name
Why it matters
First impression. It's the first visual guests see.
Sets the mood. Beach photo for a beach wedding, elegant venue shot for a formal wedding.
Personal touch. Shows you two together or highlights your wedding location.
Visual impact. A beautiful image makes your site memorable.
How to edit your header image
- Go to Site > Builder
- Click Site settings
- Select the Header tab
- Click Upload header image to choose a new image from your device
- Click Save
Your new header image appears at the top of your site!
Choosing the right image
High resolution. Header images are big! Use at least 1920x1080 pixels.
Wide orientation. Horizontal (landscape) images work best.
Clear focal point. Make sure the important part of the photo is visible even on different screen sizes.
Good quality. No blurry or pixelated photos!
Appropriate cropping. Headers often crop images to fit. Make sure the important parts won't get cut off.
Image ideas
Your favorite engagement photo. You two looking great together!
Venue exterior or interior. Where your wedding will be.
Scenic location. Beach, mountains, city skyline if it's meaningful to you.
Close-up details. Rings, flowers, or other wedding elements (though these work better at smaller sizes).
Action shot. Dancing, laughing, walking together.
Design considerations
Text overlay. Many themes put your names or site title over the header image. Choose an image that has space for text!
Contrast. If text goes over your image, make sure there's enough contrast for readability.
Mobile cropping. Headers look different on phones. Important elements should be in the center.
Theme style. Some themes show headers full-screen, others contain them. Preview to see how yours works!
File size and format
Format: JPG or PNG (JPG is usually better for photos)
File size: Under 2MB if possible (compress large images before uploading)
Dimensions: At least 1920x1080, but 2560x1440 is even better for high-res displays
Huge files slow down your site, so compress them without losing too much quality!
Testing your header image
After uploading:
View your live site to see how it looks
Check on mobile to see how it crops on phones
Ask for opinions! Get a second set of eyes
Check text readability if your theme overlays text on the image
Removing your header image
Don't want a header image?
- Go to Site settings → Header tab
- Click Delete above the header image preview
- Click Save changes
Your site will display without a header image (usually just your site title or logo).
Updating seasonally
Some couples change their header image over time:
Engagement season: Engagement photo
Pre-wedding: Switch to venue photo or save-the-date image
After wedding: Wedding day photo
You can update it as often as you like!
Header image vs. background image
Header image: Shows at the top of your site.
Background image: Shows behind all your content.
They're different settings! You can use both, one, or neither.
Multiple header images
You have one main header image for your site. But you might also be able to set:
Per-page headers: Different header images for different pages
Header slideshow: Rotating between multiple images (if your theme supports it)
Check your theme's features!
Image rights
Use your own photos! Don't use images you found online unless you have permission or they're free stock photos.
Photographer copyright: If you're using engagement photos, make sure your photographer is OK with it (they usually are!).
Compression tools
To make large images smaller without losing quality:
Online tools: TinyPNG, Compressor.io, Squoosh
Built-in: Some platforms compress images automatically when you upload
Aim for under 500KB for fast loading!
Your header image is like the cover of a book. Make it inviting and beautiful!
