Editing shortcut icon (favicon)
Customize the small icon that appears in browser tabs, bookmarks, and history when guests visit your site.
The favicon is that tiny icon that appears in browser tabs, bookmarks, and sometimes in browser history. You can customize it to match your wedding!
What is a favicon?
Favicon (short for "favorite icon") is the small image that shows:
- In browser tabs next to your page title
- In bookmarks when guests save your site
- In browser history
- On mobile home screens (sometimes)
It's usually 16x16 or 32x32 pixels, tiny but visible!
Why customize it?
Branding. Makes your site feel more professional and personal.
Recognition. Guests can find your tab easily when they have many open.
Polish. Small details make a big difference.
Fun! It's a cute way to add personality.
How to edit your favicon
- Go to Site > Builder
- Click Site settings
- In the General tab, find Shortcut icon
- Click Upload shortcut icon
- Select your favicon image file
- Click Save
Your new favicon appears in browser tabs!
Creating a favicon image
Size: Usually 32x32 or 64x64 pixels (square).
Format: PNG, ICO, or JPG (PNG with transparency works best).
Simple design. It's tiny, so complex images don't work well.
High contrast. Make sure it's visible against light and dark backgrounds.
Favicon ideas
Your initials. "E & J" or "EM" in a nice font.
A symbol. Heart, rings, a meaningful icon.
Your wedding logo. If you have one.
Monogram. Your combined initials in a fancy style.
An emoji. 💍 or ❤️ (if your system supports it).
Date. "2026" or your wedding date.
Design tips
Keep it simple. Detail disappears at small sizes.
Use bold colors. Subtle colors wash out.
Test it. View your site in a browser to see how it looks in the tab.
Make it square. Favicons are always square.
Try solid backgrounds. Transparent backgrounds work, but solid can be clearer.
Tools for creating favicons
Design tools: Canva, Figma, Adobe Illustrator
Online generators: Search "favicon generator" for simple tools
Your existing logo: If you have a wedding logo, scale it down
Emoji: Use a large emoji as your favicon (simple but effective!)
Updating your favicon
You can change it anytime! Just upload a new image in the same settings.
Note: Browsers sometimes cache favicons, so you or your guests might need to refresh to see the new one!
Multiple sizes
Some systems let you upload multiple favicon sizes:
16x16 for browser tabs
32x32 for better resolution displays
180x180 for Apple touch icons (when guests save to iPhone home screen)
192x192 for Android
If your system asks for multiple, provide them. If not, one good 32x32 image usually works!
Testing your favicon
After uploading:
Visit your site in a new browser tab
Check the tab to see if your icon appears
Bookmark your site to see how it looks in bookmarks
Try different browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox) to make sure it works everywhere
File format
PNG: Most common, supports transparency.
ICO: Traditional favicon format, works everywhere.
SVG: Modern, scalable, but not all browsers support it for favicons.
PNG is usually your best bet!
When it doesn't show up
If your favicon isn't appearing:
Wait a bit. Browsers cache icons, it might take time to update.
Clear browser cache. Force your browser to fetch the new icon.
Check file format. Make sure it's a supported format.
Check file size. Too large might not work. Keep it under 100KB.
Try a different browser. See if it's a browser-specific issue.
Mobile considerations
On phones, favicons might show when guests:
Add your site to their home screen
View your site in their browser tabs
Make sure your icon is recognizable even at tiny sizes!
Default favicon
If you don't upload a custom one, your site might show:
The WedSites logo
A generic document icon
No icon at all
Custom is better!
Favicons are a small touch that adds polish and personality to your wedding website!
