How do I prevent Google from indexing my site?
Keep your wedding website out of search engine results if you prefer it to remain private.
Short answer: Go to Site > Builder > Site settings and check the option to prevent search engine indexing.
Enabling noindex
- Go to Site > Builder
- Click Site settings
- In the General tab, make sure your site is published
- Check the box for Prevent search engines from indexing this site
- Click Save
How it works
When you enable this setting:
- A "noindex" tag is added to your website
- Search engines like Google are instructed not to list your site
- Your site won't appear in search results
- Guests can still access it directly with the URL
What this doesn't do
Preventing indexing does not:
- Password protect your site
- Hide your site from people who have the URL
- Remove your site from search results immediately if it was previously indexed
- Prevent social media previews when sharing links
Additional privacy options
For more privacy, consider also:
- Password protecting your site
- Enabling guest authentication
- Using a less guessable subdomain
- Not sharing your URL publicly on social media
Tips
- Search engines may take time to respect the noindex request
- If your site was previously indexed, request removal through Google Search Console
- The setting only affects search engine visibility, not direct access
- Combine with password protection for maximum privacy
